Columba House
When the Lord speaks to hearts many strange and beautiful things happen. Columba House is no exception.
In Wexford in Winter 1979, a small group of us were praying, listening to the Lord for our city. I sensed clearly His Words:
"In a few days a stranger will point out to you a house."
The message was real and very encouraging. The house, however, was a mere shell. Before the "troubles" it was used by the police for lodging and recreation. (It had been bombed and burnt out in 1970). Within days a generous benefactor purchased the house and spent the first £10,000 on renovations.
A small group of people locally have been meeting regularly to pray and seek direction. It has become obvious that there is a great need for a "House of Reconciliation." The work of Reconciliation is not just about healing the wound of divisions in the Body of Christ -- it is about integration and wholeness as individuals as well.
Please pray that our aims and objectives will be fulfilled and that "Columba House" will become a place of Healing and Reconciliation for all who come here hungry for life and love, for
"Unless the Lord builds this house, they labour in vain who build it."
Yours sincerely,
Neal Carlin (Reverend)
The Aims of Columba House
Prayer
They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles. They shall run and not grow weary – walk and not grow faint. (Isaiah 40: 31)
As well as daily community prayer members intercede privately under the Lordship of Jesus in an attitude of reverence, openness and obedience to the Word of God.
Community
As a group with common experience of being ‘held captive’ in prison cells or by the forces of anger, guilt, fear and hatred, we are learning to appreciate each other’s weaknesses and needs as well as help developing each other’s talents and gifts. We see Christian Community as a network of interpersonal relationships based on our common relationship with Jesus Christ as Rock and Cornerstone.
Evangelisation
"You shall be my witnesses"
As we pray and grow together the Lord has been leading us to be a small light of hope in a troubled area – a leaven loca1ly, especially among those wounded by violence and counter-violence. The present outreach of our small team includes team Retreats, Teaching Christian Truths to prisoners and to ex-prisoners, Counselling the wounded by division in our land and church, families of prisoners in particular.
In our experience the above work of the Spirit involves Repentance and Reconciliation.
Repentance
As we become more aware of His Love we daily become more aware of the need to turn towards Jesus, to change, to repent gladly. As wounded healers we seek to provide a place of refuge for the troubled and broken seeking freedom. Only by Love, Forgiveness, Trust can the Fear, Pain and Mistrust in our Society be cast out and a new life be experienced.
Reconciliation
"Come now let us set things right, says the Lord. Though your sins be as scarlet, they may become white as snow; though they be crimson red, they may become white as wool." (Isaiah 1:18)
"All of you are Christ’s Body and each of us is part of it." (I Corinthians 12)
