Iconography

We hope to get funding to build workshops at White Oaks where we will have  a space devoted to iconography / calligraphy.  We intend that there will be an artist in residence writing icons and teaching others about this art.

Find on this page a picture of an icon on which we are presently working. At this stage there is still a considerable amount of work to be done with highlights on all the garments, hair and flesh.  As the work progresses we will update this page so that you will note the different stages. The only part presently highlighted is the orange band and part of the bible.

We have now added highlights to the blue outer garment  and will soon be moving towards the red inner garment for highlights. For the person who may wish to follow these instructions the base colour of the garment is ultramarine dark with a little yellow ochre and ivory black.  The highlights are done using ultramarine dark, a little yellow ochre and zinc white.  As one moves towards the final lights more white is added and one will be using a smaller brush.

A third picture shows the red garment and the hair completed but the actual instructions for the hair will come later. If anyone is actually needing them then tell us about your urgency and we will oblige.

Below the more or less finished icon waiting to be blessed. It is difficult to give true representations with camera but no doubt we will get better at writing icons and taking pictures.
